غير بعيدٍ عن ‘الفتنة’ التاريخيّة بين العقل والنقل، تخيّر العلّامة مغنيّة منطقةً وسطى من الاشتغال بالفلسفة، فدرس الدين فلسفيّاً على أرضيّة الإيمان وسمّى مهمّته المعرفيّة هذه بـ‘فلسفة العقيدة’. ولئن أقرّ بجدوى التجريد الفلسفيّ في توليد السؤال وتنقيح العقيدة بنور العقل وردم الهوّات بين الذات والآخر، فأنّه أدخل الفلسفة في مجال الاستعمال، في الواقع التفصيليّ للحياة الدينيّة اليوميّة.

Not uninvolved in the historic drift between scripture and intellection, Sheikh Moghniyyeh opted for an interval intermediate to both, studying religion philosophically on the solid basis of faith and calling his epistemic undertaking ‘doctrinal philosophy’.

And while acknowledging the worth of philosophical abstraction in engendering questions, enriching doctrine and bridging gaps between the self and the other, Moghniyyeh brought philosophy to the field of detailed, straightforward everyday religious life.
